Movie fun for families at Daventry

Minions and Back to the Future will be shown in two screenings at the Daventry Family Cinema Day and entrance to the event is free.

There will be free Park and Ride buses operating between Chaucer Way Car Park and Daventry Country Park, starting at 10.30am.

The first film to be shown is the 80s classic Back to the Future starting at 11.30am.

This will then be followed by two screenings of the animated film Minions starting at 1.45pm and 3.45pm.

Back to the Future will then be screened at 5.30pm.

The films were chosen following a public vote held by Daventry Town Council who have worked alongside the district council as well as Daventry and District Housing to put on the event.

Back to the Future is one of the highest rated films of all time and has been consistently enjoyed since its release in 1985.

It concerns a young man is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, and must make sure his high-school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence.

The science fiction adventure comedy stars Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox and is directed by Robert Zemeckis.

So popular was the first film that it spawned two sequels released in 1989 and 1990.

It is a franchise which has still proved popular to the point where both Zemeckis alongside his fellow screenwriter Bob Gale are currently working on a musical.

The other film to be shown, Minions, is a spin off from the Despicable Me films.

Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon.

Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression.

But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; accompanied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

Their search leads them to Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever super-villainess.

Among the performers lending their vocal chords to the film are Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, Pierre Coffin with the film narrated by Pirates of the Caribbean’s Geoffrey Rush.

The film was one of the most successful in box office history taking $1.159 billion after its release in June last year.
