Food Glorious Food

A celebration of all of the best food and drink across the county will be coming to Holdenby House later this month.

The Northamptonshire Food Show and Crafts @ Holdenby will be running for the eighth year at the stately home and will showcase some of the region’s finest products.

The show runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31.

Among the chefs who will be cooking at the show is Sophie Grigson.

She is a keen champion of domestic cookery, eminently practical and keen on eating well. She has dedicated her career to cooking simple, easy dishes using new and exciting ingredients.

Having published 24 cookery books, Sophie is synonymous with great food and has a natural ability to teach cookery in an informal and fun way.

Other workshops will come from Andy Kelly from Sophia’s Restaurant in Northampton.

There will be sip and tips with local distillers Warner Edwards while people can have a kitchen garden tour with the head gardener at Holdenby House Matt Hughes.

A wide range of condiments, artisan cheeses, home cured and fresh meat, dairy products, confectionary, bakery, wine, beer and other drinks while cookware will also be on sale.

The Earl of Essex’s Regiment of Foote will be having a living history display both days. It will give visitors the chance to find out about food and living in the 17th century including drill and firing 
displays in front of the house.

Icarus Falconry will be providing displays throughout the weekend and people can meet the elegant raptors. They will be sharing the lawn with Northampton Croquet Club who will be playing and offering the chance for people to have a go at the sport.

Daily admission includes rare access to both the house and the gardens from midday to 4pm each day.

Admission is £7.50, concessions are £6 and £3.50 for children aged between five and 16. Children younger than five can go in free.

There are family tickets available consisting of two adults and two children at a cost of £18.
