A NIGHT of glitz and glamour will be coming to Braunston Village Hall on Saturday night.
The village’s cinema club will be celebrating its second anniversary in style with a screening of the third movie in the James Bond series of movies, Goldfinger.
The event will also see a casino, canapes, licensed bar and a James Bond quiz.
The screening will act as a celebration of Braunston Cinema Club which has been bringing a number of hit movies to the village.
The group’s treasurer Wendy Wilson said: “We asked some of our members what they would like to see and somebody suggested given that it is the 50th anniversary of James Bond that we put on a Bond movie.
“We wanted to put one of the older movies on rather than a modern day one, and it is a real classic.
“The people that tend to come along to our group tend to be older ladies so we wanted to put a film on which would encourage more men to come and join us.”
The film, released in 1964, starred Sean Connery as James Bond with former The Avengers actress Honor Blackman playing Pussy Galore.
In addition to all of the other entertainment, fancy dress is encouraged and will be prizes for the best-dressed audience members.
The group’s chairman Abigail Campbell said: “When we set this club up two years ago, we did have a steady customer base, but now we are getting around 50 people watching the films that we show on a regular basis.
“The good news is that we have managed to raise enough money for our own projector and big screen which will cut down on the costs for hiring the projector and the screen each time.”
Explaining the club’s appeal, Wendy added: “For the older people in the village, it gives them a chance to get out on a Saturday night, watch a film and see a few friends. It’s a very social occasion.
Tickets for the screening are £10 for members of Braunston Cinema Club, and £12 for non-members.
It is a not for profit group, run by volunteers, and supported by the Big Country Rural Cinema Network.
The club’s next two films include the 2012 film Tortoise in Love on Sunday November 25 and the 1954 film White Christmas which will be shown on Saturday December 15.
