Workers get off to strong start

DAVENTRY Workers A were at home to The George this week and it was a great start for the home side with a 2-1 win for Ricky Cole (140, 123, 114, 100 x 2) over Andy Winters (100 x 4).

Taff Hartley (134, 119, 100, 120s) followed this up with a 2-1 win over K. Aldridge (100), before Ray Jones (140, 122, 100 x 3, 152s) put the home side 7-2 up with a 3-0 win over S. Heath.

From this point on the match changed completely and a 3-0 win for the away side’s A. Cox (117, 100 x2) over Simon Gulliver kept them in with a chance. When Gordon Eyles (140, 120 x 2, 100) won the first two legs it set up a grandstand finish which Dave Hewitt (122, 100, 120s) managed to win to give the Workers A an overall 8-7 victory.

In game two, Caseys were at home to Slim Jims. In the first game, Rachel Lewis (100, 95, 85, 80, 80s) got the away side off to a great start with a 3-0 win against M. Taylor (100). C. Graham (100) followed this with another 3-0 win over Luke Spence (140 x 2, 125, 100, 105s). The home side finally got on the board with a 2-1 win for Chris Gay (140, 133 x 2, 121, 100, 128s) over Richard Dennis (100 x 5, 100s, 101f) but “Burtie” (140 x 2, 125, 120, 100s) got another win for the away side, 2-1 over Dave Summerfield (180, 125, 120s, 100s). Slim Jims didn’t have a fifth player so John Gaul had a 3-0 “walkover” to make the final score 9-6 to Slim Jims.

Long Buckby hosted Daventry Workers B in game three this week. The away side got off to a great start with a 3-0 win for Wadey (100 x 3) over Joe Gammidge. Buckby hit back when Ian Bow (140, 120, 100, 120s, 100s) beat Rich Ludlow (121, 100 x 2) 2-1. Dave Keating (140 x 2, 105s) won 2-1 for the away side against Ray Feasey (140) before Mick Feasey (140 x 3, 101, 100 x 3, 100s) kept the home side in it with a 2-1 win over Gavin Taylor (100 x 3, 112s).

In a tense final game, the Workers Anthony Leedham (100) beat Pete Shirley 3-0 to give the Workers a 10-5 win overall.

The Con Club were at home to Wheatsheaf Weedon B in game four. Ivan Lester (100) beat Alastair Hawkeswood 3-0, Simon Adkins (140, 135, 100, 101f) beat David Bangs (121) 3-0, Ray Hobrow (100 x 5) beat Nigel Jones (100) 3-0, R. Peasland (125, 100) beat “H” (123, 104) 3-0 and Stuart Coe Snr (125) completed a 15-0 win for the home side with a 3-0 victory over Tom Babbings (106).

Wheatsheaf Braunston played hosts to The Peppermill in the final game. The Peppermill took the first game with a 2-1 win for Clive Hart (140, 100 x 3) over Tommy Kendall (100 x 2). The home side hit back strongly with wins for Gordon Aldridge (123) 2-1 over S. Marshall, Dave Jones (140, 134, 100 x 4) 3-0 over K. Chapman and Gavin Taylor (121, 100 x 3) 3-0 over Troy Miller (140, 100).

Although The Peppermill took the final game 3-0 when Paul Butler (102, 100 x 3, 108f) beat Glen Thompson (100 x 2) it was a 9-6 overall win for Wheatsheaf Braunston.
