WOODFORD United are next week helping the national prison service team warm up for the World Police and Fire Service Games being staged in New York next month.
The English Prison Service football side is formed from serving prison staff from England and Wales. The players range in standard from ex-professional to local league and are recruited via recommendation and the festival of football.
Next month the team are heading off to New York for the World Games – after the Olympics considered to be the largest competitor sporting event in the world. This will be a significant event as the games take place as a prelude to the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
The last time the side entered was 2004 in Quebec where they won the gold medal and are hopeful of doing well this year.
The match between Woodford United and the England Prison Service kicks off at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening.
