THIS week in the Northampton league, Kilsby Tennis Club Men were away on the grass courts against Abington A.

The team of Steve Rose, Tim Morris, Brian Perry and James Loader were to face a team which had started in fine form by winning all of their previous five matches.

Playing on grass proved to be a distinct advantage for the home team and despite valiant efforts from both of the Kilsby pairs they were only able to secure two sets. Overall it was a win for Abington six sets to two.

The Rugby mixed team also had an away trip to play Warwick University this time on indoor courts. This match proved to be an epic struggle with long rallies and very tight sets.

Husband and wife Brian and Sue Perry teamed up for the first time this season and were able to win three of their four sets, just losing out on the fourth set by seven games to five.

Ron Mason and Sarah Wilson battled hard and long in both of their matches, but despite valiant efforts were able to win just one set meaning that the overall result was a 4-4 draw with Kilsby narrowly coming out on top by winning more games.

Kilsby have recently spent £20,000 on new courts and welcome new players. Club nights are Tuesdays from 6.30pm. Just go along and see what the courts are like.
