SEVEN members of Rugby Triathlon Club – which includes Daventry area members – recently took part in the Outlaw Ironman Distance event.

This event includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and then a 26.2-mile run.

It was held at Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, Nottingham.

The 2.4 mile swim takes place in the regatta lake at Holme Pierrepont. The bike course features an out and back route and three loops around some of Nottinghamshire’s finest countryside. The run course is around the lake and on to the River Trent path to Trent Bridge and County Hall.

Hywell Davies took second place overall and won his age group with a time of eight hours 52 mins 28 secs.

Tony Johnson won his age group convincingly with a time of 11 hours 55 mins 33 secs.

Keith Edwards achieved second place in his age group with a time of 10 hours five mins 18 seconds.

Phil Scott achieved a personal best of 11 hours four mins 33 secs

Pete Wright achieved 11 hours 28 mins 27 secs and Gren Bateman 13 hours 13 mins 50 secs. Unfortunately Jamie Sinclair was unlucky enough to get two punctures on the bike and was unable to finish the race.

A total of 11 teams from Rugby Triathlon Club will be visiting Holme Pierrepont again at the end of August for the National Club Relays.
