THIS week in the Northampton League, Kilsby Tennis Club travelled to Duston United to play their ‘B’ team.
Having last week despatched Duston’s ‘C’ team 7-1, they were looking to inflict a similar result.
With Mark Meagrow being unavailable for this match, Brian Perry teamed up with Paul Mason who was making his 2011 debut for Kilsby.
Together they did not disappoint. There followed a really long and competitive set against Duston’s first pair and the Kilsby duo came out victorious winning both sets 6-3 and 6-4.
A similar hard-fought match followed against the second pairing with the first set reaching a tie-break before the Kilsby pair successfully came through 7-6, 6-4.
Steve Rose again teamed up with Tim Morris as Kilsby’s first pair. The now unfamiliar hard courts seemed to suit Tim and Steve very well.
They overpowered the second Duston pairing 6-2, 6-0 and maintained their superb form to inflict a similar score on Duston’s first pair in super quick time for a resounding 8-0 win for Kilsby.
That makes five wins in the last six matches putting them in sight of the league leaders and with an outside chance that they could still get promoted to the top-flight next season.
There are just two matches left this season and all to play for.
Kilsby welcomes new members and encourages players of all experience to come and view their new courts.
They have men’s and mixed teams in the Rugby and Northampton leagues. Club nights are every Tuesday from 6.30pm and if anyone would like more information about membership, please contact Ron Mason on 01788 822883
