THE final rounds of matches have now been played in the Daventry netball season and this is the first season where the final matches have meant the difference in the league standings, so all the teams had everything to play for.
The first match of the day was Grafton Gate 24, versus G&T’s 20. With both teams fighting for top position this match kept tight throughout with the court being used to the maximum.
Grafton’s excellent defence and shooting meant they took the well-earned victory.
Next on court was Duston 8, against Ashmore Phoenix 46. Ashmore kept control throughout and never looked in doubt of their win.
The third match was Ashmore Tornadoes 24, versus Hornets 15 and again, with both teams fighting for top spot this game began evenly-matched. But with Ashmore changing the pace in the second-half they drove on to win.
Fourth match of the day was Helix 19, against DW Ladies 6. Helix finally found their team strengths to lead from the start with excellent centre court skills and more precise shooting they took a well-deserved win for their final match of the season.
The next match was Fusion 10, Barclaycard 19. Despite Fusion’s excellent defence by Daisy and Steph, Barclaycards more accurate shooting made sure of the win.
The final match of the season was Cummins 13, Moulton Meerkats 31. This score does not reflect this game as play was evenly matched on the court.
Cummins, with only six players took time to warm up and struggled in the first-half but in the second they started to gel, with good shooting from Cummins.
From an excellent shot from Monica from the edge of the circle, they lessened the goal difference but the Meerkats never waivered and were never in danger of losing their early lead.
The presentation for the league winners and other awards will be made on Friday in the Saxon Suite at the Daventry Leisure Centre, a disco will follow.
The league thanked all their teams for their sporting participation this season and a big thank you went to Cath and Sharon for making this season one of the best.
