Saints have announced the arrival of two promising youngsters to bolster the squad for next season.

Back row forward Sion Bennett, who is 21, moves to Northampton from Scarlets, having played eight times for the Welsh region.

Bennett has also represented Wales Under-20s in the Junior World Championships and Six Nations, also turning out for the international sevens side.

And he will be joined at Saints by scrum-half Alex Mitchell, who has impressed since progressing through Sale’s youth system.

Mitchell has been a regular in Sale’s Under-18s side, competing in the Premiership Rugby Academies League.

And Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder is looking forward to welcoming the prodigious pair to the Gardens.

“We’ve got a lot of talented youngsters coming through our own Academy system, but we always have an eye on what is happening elsewhere,” said Mallinder.

“Sion and Alex are two very good players who we believe have a lot of potential to impress in the years to come.”
