Stephen Myler could be available for Saints’ clash with London Irish on Friday night after being left out of England’s training squad for the game against Italy.

Stuart Lancaster’s side welcome the Italians to Twickenham on Saturday and a 33-man group returned to the Pennyhill Park base on Sunday evening.

But Myler, who has been suffering from a calf strain, was not included and he could face Irish in the Premiership battle at Franklin’s Gardens this week if he recovers in time.

Sale Sharks No.10 Danny Cipriani was handed a place on the England bench for the Six Nations opening night win in Wales, with Bath’s George Ford starting the game at fly-half.

Both remain in the England squad for the Italy clash, along with Saints quartet Dylan Hartley, Calum Clark, Luther Burrell and Alex Corbisiero.

Hartley and Burrell both started against Wales last Friday, while Clark and Corbisiero, along with Christian Day, were released in the build-up to the game.

Clark and Day played no part in last Saturday’s 29-6 LV= Cup win against Wasps, but Corbisiero did, managing just 27 minutes before suffering a lower leg injury that saw him forced off.

However, the withdrawal of the prop was descirbed as ‘precautionary’ by Saints assistant coach Alan Dickens and he has been deemed fit enough to return to camp.

Tom Wood and Courtney Lawes are also at Pennyhill Park as they continue to recover from ankle injuries.

England’s 33-man squad: Forwards: Attwood (Bath), Brookes (Newcastle), Clark (Saints), Cole (Leicester), Corbisiero (Saints), Croft (Leicester), Easter (Harlequins), Hartley (Saints), Haskell (Wasps), Kitchener (Leicester), Kruis (Saracens), Marler (Harlequins), Parling (Leicester), Robshaw (Harlequins, captain), M Vunipola (Saracens), B Vunipola (Saracens), T Youngs (Leicester).
