Myler puts pen to paper on new Saints deal

Waiting for Video...

Fly-half Stephen Myler is expected to sign a new contract at Saints today (Wednesday).

Myler’s current deal was set to run out this summer, but Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder has moved to retain the services of the 28-year-old.

Leicester Tigers had shown an interest in signing Myler, but he has decided to stay at Franklin’s Gardens.

Instead, Saints’ second choice fly-half, Ryan Lamb will be making the move to Welford Road this summer.

Myler is third in Northampton’s all-time points scorers list, with only Roger Hosen and Paul Grayson having registered more.

The former Salford City Reds rugby league player, who switched codes in 2006, has scored 1,427 points in 187 Saints appearances.

He has helped the club reach three successive Premiership semi-finals and a Heineken Cup final as well as winning National League One, the EDF Energy National Trophy, LV= Cup and European Challenge Cup.

And Myler has also played 13 times for England Saxons, the highlight being the victorious Churchill Cup campaign at the end of the 2009/10 season.
