Red card completes 'bad day at the office'
WOODFORD United's outside chance of reaching the Midlands Division play-offs has been all but ended by defeats against the top two clubs in the space of five days culminating in joint-leaders Burnham's 3-1 win at Byfield Road on Tuesday night.
The Reds - down to 10-men after a sending off in the 20th minute - scored an 87th minute consolation goal through Ricky Johnson, who turned well in the box, following on from Saturday's 3-0 reversal against league leaders Hitchin.
Woodford's current poor home form continued on Tuesday night when they went a goal down after only 13 minutes.
Dennis Fenemore put Burnham in front when Finlay hesitated and allowed the striker to get a toe to the ball which trickled over the line as Harris attempted to clear.
A minute later Fenemore found space in behind Chris Jackson and unleashed an unstoppable effort past the stranded Finlay.
Then came another major
setback for the Reds in the 20th minute when Arron Parkinson was sent off for kicking out at Dunlop in an off-the-ball incident.
Woodford re-grouped and had several spells of good possession but never really threatened.
Burnham should have extended their advantage after the break when Fenemore had three gilt-edged chances to give him his hat-trick before he limped off in the
70th minute.
Fenemore's replacement Lee O'Connor made an immediate
impact slotting home at the far post to make it three-nil in the
72nd minute.
The game appeared to be all over until Ricky Johnson scored a late consolation goal for the home side who never gave up right up to the final whistle.
