Pike snatch narrow win

Week 14 - League One THE first game this week saw The Con Club A host The Pike and Eel. The home side took the first doubles game through Stuart Coe Snr (100) and Ivan Lester (100x2) only for Gary Birch (140, 100) and 'Apple' (140, 120, 100) to level the match. Ivan Lester (100x3) made it 2-1 to The Cons only for Gary Birch (100x3) to level again.

Ray Hobrow (140, 100x2) gave The Cons the advantage again but an in form

'Apple' (180, 140x3, 136, 105, 100x2) sent the match into the deciding game where a win for John Gaul (125) gave The Pike a 4-3 victory.

Game two saw The Workers entertain Long Buckby FC. The away side took the first doubles game through Mick Feasey (140x2, 100x2) and Ged Berrill (100) only for Ray Jones (180, 121, 100) and Ricky Cole (180) to level the match.

The Workers then took the first two singles games through Ricky Cole (100) and Andy Winters. Mick Feasey (121, 100) pulled one back for Long Buckby only for the home side to take the final two games through Andy Swain (140, 100) and Matt Edgar (140x2, 121, 106f) giving The Workers a

five games to two success.

Game three saw Daventry SSC take on The George. The home side took the first doubles game through Paul Butler (140) and Ian Ingram (100) only for Andy Teale and Debbie Clayton (113, 94) to level the match. The home side then took the first three doubles games through Paul Butler (140, 125, 100x3), Troy Miller (133) and Alex Miller (100). Adam Cox (132, 120x2, 100) pulled one back for The George but a win for Stuart Marshall (140) gave Daventry SSC a

5-2 win.

Game four was played at The Wheatsheaf, Weedon versus St James A. The away side took both doubles games through 'Juice' and Mick Doney (140, 100x2) followed by 'Bully' (100x4) and 'Hemps' (125, 100). Roy Osborne (140, 123, 100x2) reduced the deficit only for St James to take the next two games through 'Burtie' (100x5) and 'Juice' (100x2).

The Wheatsheaf took the final two games with wins for Max Murray (100) and Bryan Farmer (140x2, 100) but it was St James who won by four games to three.

A re-arranged game

between the above two teams was also played on this evening. The Wheatsheaf took both doubles games through Bryan Farmer (100x2) and Roy Osborne (135, 100) followed by Scott

Grimsley (140) and Max Murray (100x2). St James responded by

taking all five singles games with wins for Mick Doney (140, 121), 'Hemps' (100x3), 'Bully' (100x4), 'Juice' (140, 121, 100) and 'Burtie' (140, 100x2) giving St James a

5-2 success.

League 2

The first game in league two saw The Plume of Feathers host The

Wheatsheaf B, Weedon. The away side took the first doubles game through Dave Bangs (122, 100) and Dave Needham only for

D Lowbridge and Neil Dowd (105) to level the match.

The Plume took all five singles games through Michael Christie (180, 123, 100), S Tacey (134), 'Shoes' Graham (100), Rob Cooper (100) and 'Jug' (140) giving The Wheatsheaf a 6-1 victory.

Game two saw The

Maltsters, Weedon take on St James B. The home side took both doubles games through Iain Harper (117f, 100) and R Franks followed by C Brady and S Arissol (100x2). S Arissol (100x2) made it 3-0 only for Gavin Taylor (100) to pull one back for St James. C Brady (105, 100x2) made it 4-1 but a win for Allan

Taylor (100) reduced the deficit again. R Franks took the final game giving

The Maltsters a five games to two success.

Game three was played at the Bowls Club versus The Dun Cow. The away side took both doubles matches with wins for Nev Thornicroft and Terry Griffin (100) followed by Ritchie Elliot (100x2) and Clive Hart. Brian Gelder (140, 100x5) pulled one back for The Bowls Club only for The Dun Cow to take the next three games with wins for Nev Thornicroft (140), Luke Spense (100) and Richard Winn (128, 100).

M. Starkey (139) took the

final game for The Bowls Club but it was The Dun Cow who came away with a

5-2 victory.

The final game in league two saw St James Minxs host The Con Club B. The away side took both doubles games through Malc Giles (121, 100) and JP Pickerin followed by Steve Binder and Paula Giles (115, 91, 87). Barbara Maxwell (87) reduced the deficit only for JP Pickerin (120, 100x2) to restore the two-games advantage.

Annette Heath (83) pulled another one back for The Minxs but wins for Malc Giles and Steve Binder (100x2) gave The Con Club B a 5-2 success.
