Captain’s day

DAVENTRY and District Golf Club captain Chris Eveleigh held his Captain’s Day on Saturday.

The day started with the annual Flying Ferret where the members attempt to play a ball around the course in the shortest possible time.

With a strong breeze blowing 14 minutes 29 seconds for this year failed to beat last year’s time.

After bacon rolls and a short rest the members made their way to their allotted tees for a shotgun start to the Individual Stableford Competition.

And with gusts blowing stronger than ever scoring proved difficult.

Following the evening barbecue, the captain presented prizes to the winners.

Winner of the men’s section was James How, second place went to Karl Hirons and in third place was Tim Scull.

Longest Drive was Jason Smith and Nearest the Pin was Andrew Davies.

Winner of the ladies’ section was Jean Poolton, in second place was Kirsten Banham and third was Lynda Partis.

Nearest the Pin was Sue Lewis and Nearest the Line was Di Halliwell. Prize for the best junior went to Luke Lawford.

Sunday saw the first team in action in their sixth Scratch League match against Silverstone Golf Club.

The weather stayed fair and the wind had dropped so conditions were good.

The Daventry team made the most of it pulling off a very creditable eight games to nil victory.
