WHICH sports star from the Daventry area will get your vote in the Daventry District Sports Award 2011?

Nominations for sports men and women from across the Daventry district are now wanted.

The ceremony acknowledges the dedication, commitment and ability of our local sports stars that have worked incredibly hard throughout the year.

This year’s awards ceremony, which is run by Daventry District Council, will be held on Wednesday, October 5, in the Saxon Suite at Daventry Leisure Centre.

The evening, which is organised by Daventry District Council, will be hosted by BBC Northampton presenter Martin Heath, while a guest speaker who is yet to be confirmed will make the presentations.

 This year’s categories are:

n Sportsman of the Year

n Sportswoman of the Year

n Disabled Sportsperson of the Year (no age restrictions)

n Junior Sportsman of the Year (18 and under)

n Junior Sportswoman of the Year (18 and under)

n Team of the Year

n Community Club of the Year

n Sports Volunteer of the Year

n Young Leader of the Year

n Sports School of the Year

n Coach of the Year

n Lifetime Contribution to Sport

The Community Club of the Year category will once again be decided via a public vote.

Nomination forms for this year’s awards are now available. Forms can be downloaded from www.daventrydc.gov.uk/sportsawards.

Nomination forms will also be available to collect from the Daventry Express office, in High Street, Daventry, Daventry Leisure Centre and the council offices in Lodge Road, or from the information centres in Brixworth, Woodford Halse, Moulton and Long Buckby.

Councillor Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “The Daventry District Sports Awards ceremony is always extremely popular and represents a great opportunity for people to put forward someone who they believe deserves to be recognised for their sporting efforts.

“The awards are something to be proud of and I sincerely hope that as many people as possible throughout the district take the opportunity to promote their sport and highlight the individual achievements of the highly talented sports people within our district.”
