Myler: Next two games could shape Saints’ season

Stephen Myler admits Saints’ next two games will have a big influence on their season.

Bath come to Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday before Harlequins visit the following Friday.

Both teams currently occupy positions in the Aviva Premiership top four, with Saints sitting above the pair in second.

Consequently, Myler knows his men can’t afford any slip-ups and is eager for Northampton to pick up as many points as possible over the Christmas and New Year period.

“We’ve got Bath and Quins next up at home, which are two massive games for us and can massively influence the league position come the end of the season,” he said.

“It’s only December but it’s about putting ourself in position and getting as many wins as we can under the belt as soon as possible.

“It’s games like this week and last week, sneaking the win at the end (at Wasps), that can have a massive influence on the end of the season.”

Bath currently sit just four points behind Saints after winning eight of their 10 league games to date.

They have lost just twice in all competitions this season and Myler knows he and his team-mates will have to step it up a notch from last weekend’s 17-15 win at Wasps.

“Bath are a very good team,” he said. “They’re not in third position in the league by accident.

“They’ve had some really good wins and they’ve got a really strong squad.

“It’s going to be a massive test for us and we’re going to have to play better than last week to win.

“Come Saturday, we’ll be raring to go.”
