Workers battle on to snatch victory

The first game this week saw Caseys at home to Daventry Workers A.

The home team got off to a flying start with a 3-0 win for Mark Taylor (100 x 2) over “Snowy” (140, 100 x 2).

The away side hit back with a 2-1 win for “Taff” (140 x 2, 123, 121, 120s, 103s) over Dave Summerfield (106, 100) and a 3-0 win for “Caley” (140, 111, 100) against Nigel Turland (105) to put them in front.

Ray Jones (140, 139, 131, 121, 112s x 2) beat John Gaul (100 x 2, 112s) before Dave Hewitt (125) beat Jimmy Hill (100 x 2) to secure an overall 10-5 win for the Workers.

The George were at home to Long Bucky FC in game two and this proved to be the closest match of the week. The home side took an early advantage when A. Teale (121, 112s) beat Ray Feasey 3-0. However, the away side bounced back with a 3-0 win for Ian Bow (100, 100s x 2) over Gordon Eyles.

Pete Shirley (135, 100) also won 3-0 for the away side and this was followed by Mick Feasey (140, 100 x 2) winning 2-1 against Stuart Heath (105s).

Andy Winters (100 x 3, 110s) took the final game for The George but it was an overall 8-7 win for Long Buckby FC.

Game three this week saw Wheatsheaf Weedon B at home to Slim Jims.

The away side won all games with a 3-0 win for Dave Harris (124, 112, 101, 100 x 2) over Dave Bangs (100), followed by “Hemps” (140, 135, 100 x 2) 3-0 over A. Hawkeswood, Rachel Harris (100 x 2, 85, 81, 80) 2-1 over Paul Marsh (123, 100 x 2), Mick Doney (177, 100) 2-1 over “H” and finally Rich Dennis (140 x 2, 120, 100 x 4, 160s, 120s) 3-0 over “Pete” (100). This gave an overall 13-2 victory for Slim Jims.

Daventry Workers B hosted defending champions Wheatsheaf Weedon A in the fourth game.

“Wadey” (180, 134, 125, 121, 100) took the opening game for the Workers with a 3-0 win over Roy Osbourne (140, 100). Further home wins came when Rich Ludlow (138, 121, 100, 120s) beat Brian Farmer 2-1, Dave Keating (121, 100) beat “Bully” (100) 2-1 and Gavin Taylor (125) beat Sean Gibbs (140) 2-1.

The away side gained a little revenge with a 3-0 win for Max Murray (100 x 5) in the final game against Gavin Russ, but it was Workers B who won 9-6 overall.

In the final game this week, Con Club were at home to Wheatsheaf Braunston. Con Club started better with a 3-0 win for Ivan Lester (100 x 2) over Gordy Aldridge (100 x 2, 110s).

The away side hit back with a 2-1 win for Dave Jones (122, 100) against Simon Adkins (100) but home wins for Ray Hobrow (100 x 2) 2-1 against Tommy Kendall (140, 100 x 4) and Stuart Coe Snr (140, 100 x 2, 107s) 3-0 against Glen Thompson (100) gave the Con Club a surprise 9-6 victory, despite a 3-0 away win in the final game for “Swanny” (140, 134, 100 x 2) against R. Peasland (100 x 3).
