BANBURY were the visitors for this week’s ladies’ triples game and despite Daventry’s best efforts Banbury went home with a 107-57 win.

The rink scores were Margaret Faulkner, Mary Gillard and Judy Hicks 11 A Gilles 20. Ann Robinson, Sylvia Brewer and Jean Nixon 12 G Hunt 21. June Gelder, Carol Kershaw and Rhona Holland 11 M Cox 21. Kay McGrath Margaret Carty and Iris Rolfe 11 D Knight 26, Hazel Wallage, Jackie Lancaster and Shirley Shucksmith 12 C Gattely 19.

The ladies were in action against Northampton and District in the National Mason Trophy competition and pulled off a fine win 44-31.

The home rink had a 27-9 win and although the rink playing at Northampton could not manage a win they kept the score close at 17-22.

Rink details were, playing at home, Sue Yates, Barbara Oliver, Judy Hicks and Vicki Rushall 27 Heather Newton 9. Away June Gelder, Sylvia Plant, Pat Symonds and Joan Watts 17 Thelma Littlemore 22. They now play Wellingborough on November 11 at 10am with one rink at both venues.

Not to be outdone the men were playing at the same time in the National Over 60s Double rink competition against Kingsthorpe and recorded a notable victory 41-37.

Rink scores were, playing at home, Geoff Smith, Mike Starkey, Michael Moulton and Bernard Spreadbury 17 Mick Sharp 25. Away Tony Dicks, Brian Jones, Mick Richardson and Mick Worthington 24 Jim Mckee 12.

Next opponents will be Desborough and it has to be played by November 18.

In a friendly game away against Wellingborough, Daventry men came off second best losing 72-139.

With many regulars not available Alan Watts, Peter McMahon and Ian Reid-Jones were playing their first games for the club and captain for the day Peter Oliver offered them a warm welcome. The highest-winning rink for Daventry was Aubrey Wykes, John O’Connor, Alan Watts and Brian Scott 19 Dennis Mole 13. Other rink score were Keith Lancaster, Peter McMahon, Bob Worth and Duggie Mitchell 10 Stan Reynolds 23. Ian Watts, Brian Robbins, Alan Davies and Peter Mercer 11 Peter Short, 25. Malcolm Rogers, Ian Reid-Jones, Brian Gelder and Peter Oliver 8 George Andrew 29. Neil Oxby, Ken Faulkner, Terry Fuller and Derek Brewer 7 Barry Fokerd 28. Peter Ashbrook, Phil Goodwin, Alan Saunders and Richard Holland 17 Terry Loak 21.

The week ended on a high when a mixed Daventry team took on Northampton and District and playing at home had a resounding win by 138-80.

Captain John Sach was over the moon with the performance. Jim Hicks was welcomed back after missing all games for a year due to ill health. Highest winning rink was Alf Macar, Max Harper, Anne Scrimshaw and Alan Davies 35 L Young 8. Other rink scores were June Gelder, Jim Hicks, Barbara Langdon and Judy Hicks 29 S Wittering 6. Hazel Wallage, Madge Austin, Margaret Stevens and Dave Symonds 23 T Brown 13.
