AN under-strength Daventry side had a mountain to climb as they travelled to Derbyshire for their game against Rolls Royce.

Already hampered by a player calling in sick hours before the game, they went with just 11 players many of whom were not regular first team players.

Rolls Royce grabbed an early goal and immediately put Daventry on the back foot.

Rolls Royce quickly grabbed another goal after a mistake in midfield.

The half did not get any better for Daventry as Rolls Royce added a third and went into half-time sitting pretty on a 3-0 advantage.

A half-time team talk by Matt Candler got the Daventry players heads back into the game.

They went on to put Rolls Royce under intense pressure for almost the whole half.

They had several chances, missed open goals and hit the post twice but struggled to find the net.

Wez Pope finally broke the deadlock with a goal from a short corner. But it was too little too late as Rolls Royce scored from a counter attack making the final score 4-1.

Daventry have their last game of the season before Christmas on Saturday at home to Worksop looking to get back to winning ways.
