DAVENTRY Town B finished top of division 4 of the Northants Triples League.

In a nail biting final match against league leaders Harpole A, Daventry started the game in third place, needing one point for promotion or the win to secure the title.

Daventry were the underdogs in this match, being without three of their regular players including long term captain Bill Welsh, who recently passed away.

The Daventry men put everything into this last match, and came away with an excellent 52-38 win, and picked up four points, to take the title.

The B team will now play in division three next season, which includes the Daventry Town A team, who narrowly missed promotion to the second division.

The full result of the final match was Tony Dicks, John Sach (captain) & Rien Sach 12-5; Jim Walvin, Stuart Coyles & Bernard Noone 15-5; Ron Smith, David Cooke & David Bellis 14-15; Martin Coyles, Eric Wareing & Stan Alton 11-13.

The other members who had played during the season were Bill Welch, Darrell Welch, John Worthington, Barry Bailey, John Robinson and John Shanahan.
