No clues to who will bag league top positions

WEEK 13 saw a couple of clashes among the teams battling it out for the runners-up spot, but it still isn’t any clearer who will finish the season in second place.

The first game this week was a top versus bottom clash, with leaders Slim Jims at home to Wheatsheaf Weedon B. True to form, the home side won all five games through Dave Harris (140, 125, 100 x 2, 156s) 3-0 over Alastair Hawkeswood, Mick Doney (140 x 3, 112) 3-0 over “H” (84), Rachel Harris (121, 97, 81 x 2, 106s) 3-0 over Tom Babbings, Rich Denis (140, 125, 100, 100s) 3-0 over Dave Bangs (100) and finally “Burtie” (125, 100, 101s) 2-1 over Paul Marsh (125, 100 x 2, 142s). This gave Slim Jims an overall 14-1 win.

In the second game, Long Buckby FC played hosts to The George. It was the away side that looked set for a comfortable win when they went 7-2 up thanks to wins from Andy Winters (100 x 5) 3-0 over Paul Scott (100), Gordon Eyles (140, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Ray Feasey (121) and Andy Teale (140, 100 x 3) 2-1 over Mick Feasey (100 x 3, 100s).

Unfortunately The George were unable to complete the victory as Pete Shirley (123, 100, 105s) beat K. Aldridge 3-0 and the away side didn’t have a fifth player so had to concede the final match 3-0. This gave Long Buckby FC a narrow 8-7 victory overall.

The third game this week saw Daventry Workers B visiting Wheatsheaf Weedon A and this was a thriller between two of the teams in contention for the runners-up spot.

The home side got off to the better start with wins for “Ozzy” (140, 125, 123, 100s) 2-1 over Anthony Leedham (140, 116s) and Mark Parker (100 x 4) 2-1 over Richard Ludlow (180, 138, 100 x 3).

The away side hit back with a win for “Wadey” (180) 2-1 over Paul Bull (100 x 3) but Max Murray (125) took the fourth game 3-0 for the home side against Dave Keating (100 x 2).

In the final game, Gavin Taylor (140) gained a 3-0 success for Workers B against Debbie Farrant (140, 85, 83, 80) but the final score was an 8-7 win for Wheatsheaf Weedon A.

The fourth game was a battle between the teams in second and third place in the league – Daventry Workers A and Caseys. “Taff” (125 x 2, 100 x 2, 101s, 100s) got The Workers off to a great start with a 3-0 win against Gary Birch (100 x 3).

However, Caseys stormed back with wins for Luke Spence (140, 121, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Dave Hewitt (140), John Gaul (125, 123, 120) 2-1 over “Caley” (121, 100 x 2, 148s) and Chris Gay (133, 114s, 102s) 3-0 over “Snowy”.

The Workers didn’t have a fifth player and Caseys were awarded a 3-0 win to give them an overall 10-5 victory which means they leap-frog their opponents in the table.

In the final game this week, Wheatsheaf Braunston hosted Con Club. The away side dominated early with wins for Ivan Lester (100 x 4) 3-0 over Paul Hankinson (121), Simon Adkins (100 x 2) 2-1 over Gav Taylor (100 x 3) and Ray Hobrow (100 x 2, 116s) 2-1 over Gordon Aldridge (100 x 2).

Wheatsheaf Braunston took the final two matches through Glen Thompson (100 x 2) 2-1 over Robin Peasland and “Swanny” (137, 134, 121) 2-1 over Stuart Coe Snr (180, 145, 140, 152s).

But Con Club came away with an overall 10-5 win.

Performances of the week came from Richard Ludlow (180), “Wadey” (180), Stuart Coe Snr (180 and 152 start), Rich Denis (16-dart leg), Dave Harris (156 start), Paul Marsh (142 start) and “Caley” (148 start).
