Netball league begins with new faces

THE Daventry and District Netball League has begun the 2011/2012 season with 12 teams and a few new faces to welcome to the matches on Sunday mornings.

Training has begun in the Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 8pm.

The first match was Grafton Gate Ladies versus Fusion. In this closely-contested game the lead changed hands several times before Grafton emerged eventual winners to score 29 to 22. Libby Keech, who dominated the circle, played her last game for Grafton before going off to uni.

Next on court was Helix against Hornets. Helix took the lead in the first quarter until Hornets dialled in to dominate the court over the remainder of the match to take the win of 22 to 8.

The third match of the day was current league champions Ashmore Tornadoes versus Barclaycard. This was a close game with Ashmore keeping a narrow lead throughout to take the win 28 to 23.

The final match was Cummins against DW Ladies, with both teams fielding new players this made a close and exciting match to watch before DW just clinched the win 19 to 16.
