Nail-biting times for darts league’s tough encounters

THE Wheatsheaf Weedon A hosted the Con Club in the first game this week and it was the home side that got off to a great start when “Ozzy” (140, 100s) beat Ivan Lester (100) 3-0.

The away side hit back with a 2-1 win for Simon Adkins (120, 120, 100, 102s) over Shaun Gibbs (134, 100 x 2) but The Wheatsheaf extended their lead when Max Murray (117, 100 x 2, 120s) beat Ray Hobrow (100 x 2, 102s).

Stuart Coe Snr (125, 100 x 2) took the next game for the Con Club 2-1 over Mark Parker (100 x 2, 120s, 100s) but “Bully” (140 x 2, 114, 100 x 2) won the final game 3-0 for the home side against Nick Coe (100) to give Wheatsheaf Weedon A an overall 11-4 victory.

In game two Casey’s played hosts to The George and this was a real thriller.

The away side took the lead with a 3-0 win for Andy Winters (121, 100 x 2, 100s) over Gary Birch (100 x 2) before Luke Spence (140, 100 x 2) beat Gordon Eyles (140, 100) 2-1 to get the home side back in it. Andy Teale (140, 115, 100) extended the lead for The George with a 2-1 win over Nigel Turland (140, 100) before John Gaul (140, 100) beat Stuart Heath (100, 120s, 100s) to keep Casey’s hopes alive.

With The George leading 7-5 going into the final game the pressure was on and it was Casey’s Mark Taylor who rose to the challenge with a 3-0 win over K. Aldridge to give Casey’s an overall 8-7 win.

In Game three, Wheatsheaf Weedon B were unable to get enough players to make a team so it was Daventry Workers B who were awarded an 8-0 win.

The fourth game this week saw The Peppermill at home to Daventry Workers A. The away side were always in control, winning the first two games 3-0 through Simon Gulliver (121, 112s) over S. Berry (100) and Ricky Cole (100 x 3) over Keith Chapman (114, 102s).

The home side won the next game when Paul Butler (123, 100, 120s) beat “Taff” (140) 2-1 but more away wins for Ray Jones (136, 105, 100, 112s) 3-0 over Stuart Marshall (100) and “Caley” (100) 2-1 over Troy Miller (125, 100) gave Workers A an overall 12-3 victory.

In the final game this week Long Buckby FC were at home to leaders Slim Jims.

The away side dominated throughout with wins for Dave Harris (140 x 2, 100, 116s x 2) 2-1 over Ray Feasey, “Hemps” (100 x 3, 112s) 3-0 over Ian Bow (100 x 4), Rachel Harris (180, 140, 100 x 2, 95, 91, 82) 2-1 over Mick Feasey (121, 100 x 4), Rich Denis (180, 100 x 4, 100s) 3-0 over Joe Gammidge and finally “Burtie” (140, 125, 100 x 2) 3-0 over Pete Shirley (132, 100). This gave Slim Jims an overall 13-2 win.

Performances of the week go to Rachel Harris (180), Rich Denis (180) and Mark Taylor (winning the final game in his match 3-0 to give his side an overall 8-7 victory).
