Mixed fortunes in league

THIS week saw the start of the 2011 Summer League, with 11 teams making up one division.

The first game saw Daventry Workers A host Long Buckby FC.

The visitors gained the early lead when Ray Feasey (121, 123) beat “Snowy” (100) 2-1.

The home side hit back with wins for “Taff” (127, 100 x2) 3-0 over Iain Bow (100), Dave Hewitt (140, 117F) 3-0 over Joe Gammidge, “Caley” (125, 123, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Mick Feasey (140, 121, 100) and Ray Jones (140, 121, 100) 3-0 over Ged Berrill (140), giving The Workers A an overall 12-3 victory.

Game two saw Caseys at home to Wheatsheaf Weedon B.

The home side dominated from the start, with an opening win for Luke Spence (100 x 2, 97F) 2-1 over Paul Jackson followed by 3-0 wins for Dave Summerfield (130, 100 x 3), Nigel Turland (100), John Gaul (125, 100 x 2) and Chris Gay (140, 101).

This gave Caseys a 14-1 overall win.

Game three saw the champions from last summer, Wheatsheaf Weedon A, get their defence off to a good start with an 11-4 win over The George.

Despite the away side winning the first game 2-1 through A. Teale (100 x 3) over Sean Gibbs (100 x 3), the home side had wins for Roy Osbourne (140, 125) 3-0 over Andy Winters (100 x 3, 140S), Paul Bull (100 x 2, 108S x 2, 102S) 2-1 over A. Cox (100), Max Murray (123, 100 x 2) 2-1 over S. Heath (100 x 2) and finally Mark Parker (133, 100) 3-0 over L. Hickman (121, 100 x 2, 104S).

Game four saw the closest game of the week between Wheatsheaf Braunston and Slim Jim’s.

The away side won the first game 2-1 when “Hemps” (140, 137, 112S and 144F) beat Gavin Taylor (100 x 2).

The Wheatsheaf bounced back to take the lead with a 3-0 win for Dave Jones (100 x 2, 102S) over Mick Doney (121). Rachel Lewis (94, 85S, 80S) gained a 2-1 win over Gordon Aldridge (100) before Richard Dennis (140, 120, 100) leveled the match with a 2-1 win over Tommy Kendall.

With all to play for in the final game, “Burtie” (140, 100, 145F) gained a 3-0 win over Glen Thompson (120) to secure an overall 9-6 victory for Slim Jims.

The final game this week saw The Peppermill play hosts to Daventry Workers B and it was the away side who got off to a flying start with Gary Wade (180, 125, 121, 100, 112S) winning 3-0 against A. Miller.

Richard Ludlow (140, 100 x 2, 120S) extended the lead for the workers with a 2-1 win over K. Chapman and this was followed by two more wins for the Workers with Dave Keating (123, 100 x 2, 100S x 2) winning 3-0 against S. Marshall and Gavin Russ winning 2-1 against C. Archer.

The home side gained their only win of the night when Troy Miller (180, 140) beat Willie Taylor (106S), but it was Workers B who won 10-5 overall.

Performances of the week go to Gary Wade (180 and a 15-dart leg), Troy Miller (180), “Burtie” (145 finish), “Hemps” (144 finish) and Andy Winters (140 start).
