Ladies off to a flying start

DAVENTRY Ladies started their season with a nine-hole Stableford Competition.

Winner on 17 points was retiring lady captain Lynda Partis and runner-up on 16 points was Helen Primett.

Bev Johnson and Tracy Dodman won through to the second round of The Daily Mail Foursomes winning their opening match away at Cherwell Edge. They face a Northants County Pair at home in round two.

The Cecil Leitch team got off to a good start winning away at Priors Hall, Corby 5–2.

Mandy Kane lost to Jean Poolton 4 and 2, Joyce Sutherland beat Bev Johnson 1 up, Janet Anderson lost to Tracy Dodman 8 and 7. June Smith lost to Gill Leppard 3 and 1, Rose West lost to Helen Primett on 19th, Cath Arnold beat Lynda Partis on 19th, Maureen Stanion lost to Linda Johnson 2 up.

In the return match Daventry pulled out all the stops winning 7–0.

Jean Poolton beat Kate Cameron 5 and 4, Bev Johnson beat Joyce Sutherland 8 and 6, Shelly Jackson beat Janet Anderson 5 and 3, Sue Lewis beat Madeline Davidson 8 and 7, Lynda Partis beat Jean Buchan 6 and 5, Kirsten Banham beat Cath Arnold 5 and 3 and Linda Johnson beat Marina Kealy 5 and 3.

In the Hospital Cup (Winter Greensome) Final Paul Read and Andy Laws beat Daniel Haynes and Luke Lawford.
