Long Buckby were held to a 2-2 draw in their top-of-the-table match at Atherstone.

Both teams battled hard, but it was Buckby who dominated possession in the first half with their midfield, Amanda Becker, Becky Scotney and Sue Robson controlling play.

Buckby won a series of short corners but were unable to convert, and it was Atherstone on the break who took the first goal.

Buckby ladies kept their heads and Susan Fox took an equalising goal in open play. But Atherstone again scored on the break taking the score to 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw Atherstone take advantage of their numerous substitutes, but the 11 Buckby Ladies played their hearts out, unlucky not to score.

With the final whistle blown, Buckby were down 2-1 with one short corner left to play.

Sue Robson stepped up to the mark, but Atherstone fouled leading to a second short corner.

Robson remained composed and struck the ball hard and clean firing it into the corner of the goal to delighted cheers from the Buckby team and supporters.

It was a well deserved and hard fought game for Buckby who remain top of the Warwickshire Division 2 league.
