Long Buckby hosted nearby rivals Warwick IVs on a crisp and fresh Saturday morning.
They were keen to follow on from last week’s success, and Buckby did not disappoint as they won 2-0.
Buckby started well with some excellent passing to players and following continued pressure on the Warwick defence were soon rewarded when a ball from Abbie Arnull strayed into the D and was met by Charlotte Dennison, who safely slotted it past the keeper to give Buckby the lead.
Excellent running and persistence from Ellie Sales and Natasha Edwards enabled further chances which proved unfortunate not increase the score line further.
Warwick failed to penetrate the Buckby line through some strong defensive play from Abby McDowell, Vicki Soden, Helen Clayton and stand in Buckby keeper Holly Singleton to ensure a clean sheet at half time.
Following the break, Buckby were keen to rectify any errors in the first half and really stepped up the game.
Excellent work by halves Sarah O’Donovan and Linsey Burton ensured links Kay Molloy and Mary Burton were well supported, who continued to feed the front row which allowed Lucy Boston to secure Buckby’s second goal. Warwick tried to capitalise on a tiring Buckby side, but the home side fought through to secure the win.
