Week 24 – League One

THIS week saw the final week of league matches. The first game saw St James A host The Plume of Feathers (played at The Plume).

St James took both doubles matches through Richard Denis (121) and ‘Hemps’ (100) followed by Mick Doney (100x2) and Burtie (140, 100). St James then took all five singles games with wins for ‘Hemps’ (140, 100), Burtie (125, 100x2, 114f), Richard Denis (140, 100x4), ‘Bully’ (140, 100x2) and Rachel Harris (140, 100, 95, 86, 80x2) giving St James a seven games to nil success to become the 2010-2011 Winter league champions.

Game two saw Casey’s take on The Workers. The home side took the first doubles game through John Gaul (140, 100) and ‘Apple’ (140x2, 125, 100) only for ‘Wadey’ (125, 100x2) and Steve Cale to level the match. The Workers then took the first three singles games with wins for ‘Wadey’ (180, 140, 107, 100x2), ‘S’ (140x3, 121) and Ray Jones (140, 125). Casey’s responded by taking the final two games through ‘Apple’ (140, 121x2, 100x2) and Gary Birch (140) but it was The Workers who won by four games to three.

Game three saw The Wheatsheaf Braunston host The Wheatsheaf A Weedon. The Weedon side took both doubles matches through Roy Osborne (140) and Mark Parker (100x3) followed by Max Murray (140, 100x2, 110f) and Shaun Gibbs (140, 100). The Braunston side levelled the match with wins for Gordon Aldridge and Dave Jones (100x4).

A win for Shaun Gibbs (121) gave The Wheatsheaf Weedon the lead only for The Wheatsheaf Braunston to take the final two games with wins for Dave Harris and ‘Swanny’ (180, 140x2) giving The Wheatsheaf Braunston a four games to three victory.

Game four saw The Dun Cow B host Long Buckby FC. The away side took the first doubles match through Iain Bow (100x4) and Mick Feasey (100x3) only for Alex Miller (100) and Paul Butler (100x4) to level the match. A win for Paul Butler gave The Dun Cow the advantage only for Long Buckby to take the final four games through Ray Feasey, Iain Bow (100x4), Mick Feasey (100) and Ged Berrill, giving Long Buckby five games to two success.

The first game in League Two saw St James B take on The George. The away side took both doubles matches through Andy Winters (100x2) and Adam Cox (140, 101) followed by Luke Hickman and Andy Teale (140).

St James levelled the match with wins for Willie Taylor and John Geary (121, 119, 100x) only for The George to take the final three games through Andy Teale (140, 100), Luke Hickman (100x2) and Andy Winters (140x2, 100x2) giving The George a five games to two victory.

Game two saw The Wheatsheaf B Weedon take on The Bowls Club. The away side took both doubles games through M Starkey and B Robbins followed by Geoff Smith and D Brewer (119).

A win for B Robbins made it 3-0 to The Bowls Club only for The Wheatsheaf to take the final four games with wins for Alastair Hawkeswood, Dave Bangs (140, 125, 100), Tom Babbings (100) and Pete Stele (100) giving The Wheatsheaf a four games to three success.

Game three saw The Con Club entertain The Dun Cow A. The home side took the first doubles game through Ray Hobrow (100x3) and Simon Adkins (121, 100x2) only for Clive Hart (140) and Steve Berry (124) to level the match.

The Cons then took the first four singles games with wins for Simon Adkins, Stuart Coe Snr (140, 111), Ivan Lester (100x2) and R Peasland (135, 100).

Richie Elliott (100) took the final game for The Dun Cow but it was The Cons who won by five games to two.

Performances of the evening go to ‘Wadey’ 180, ‘Jug’ 180, ‘Swanny’ 180, ‘Burtie’ 114f and Max Murray 110f.
