DARTS: Wheatsheaf end campaign on a high

The Daventry Darts Summer League came to an end this week and the first game saw champions Slim Jims at home to runners-up Wheatsheaf Weedon.

Here the home side took both pairs games thanks to a 2-0 win for Sam Harris and Anthony Mason (140, 100) over Ozzy and Lee Arnold (100s) followed by a 2-1 win for Rich Denis (100) and Paul Butler (140, 100 x 2) over Dave Summerfield and Gary Birch (100).

The away side stormed back with a 3-0 win for Bryan Farmer (100 x 4) over Sam Harris (100 x 2, 98, 95, 83) followed by another 3-0 win for Lee Arnold (100, 118f) over Shaun Hicken (139, 100). The home side took the next game when Anthony Mason (100, 120s) beat Ozzy (135, 100 x 4) 2-1 before Dave Summerfield (135, 100, 111f) secured the win for the away side with a 2-1 win over Paul Butler (180, 134, 100 x 2, 130s).

Rich Denis (180, 140, 100 x 3, 155f, 15-dart leg) beat Chris Gay (137, 121) 3-0 in the final game but it was too late to stop Wheatsheaf Weedon taking a 9-8 win overall.

Daventry Workers visited Foresters Arms and they took both pairs games with a 2-1 win for Tony Leedham (140, 100) and Dave Keating (100) over Dominic Cawley (102s) and Alex Harvey followed by a 2-0 win for Willie Taylor and James Taylor (100 x 2) over Gary Payne (100 x 4) and Mike Edwards.

They also took the opening singles game with a 3-0 win for Tony Leedham (111, 100 x 3, 106f) over Bob Stow before the home side got on the board with a 2-1 win for Gary Payne (120, 100) over James Taylor (125). Away wins followed for Dave Keating (140, 120, 100 x 4) 2-1 over Alex Harvey (120, 100 x 2), Gav Taylor (140, 117, 100) 2-1 over Mike Edwards (100 x 2) and finally Willie Taylor (100 x 2) 3-0 over Dominic Cawley (121, 100) to give Daventry Workers a 13-4 win overall.

The final game saw Con Club entertain Pike and Eel and it was the away side that took the opening pairs game with a 2-1 win for Johnny Allaway (100) and Jake Holdem (100 x 2) over Ivan Lester (140) and Caley.

The home side hit back when Ray Hobrow (120) and Hemps (100) beat Wayne Jalland (102) and Malcolm Roberts 2-1 and this was followed by home singles wins for Hemps (137, 100) 3-0 over Wayne Jalland, Caley (140, 116, 100) 3-0 over Kate Allaway, Stuart Coe Snr (140, 100 x 2) 3-0 over Jake Holdem, Ray Hobrow (121, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Johnny Allaway (100 x 2) and finally Ivan Lester (121, 100) 3-0 over Malcolm Roberts (138, 100, 112s) to give Con Club a 15-2 win overall.

Performances of the week came from Lee Arnold (118 finish and 100 start), Anthony Mason (120 start), Paul Butler (180 and 130 start), Rich Denis (180, 155 finish and a 15-dart leg), Dave Summerfield (111 finish), Tony Leedham (106 finish) and Malcolm Roberts (112 start).
