Daventry Town Outdoor Bowls Club A Team have completed the 2013 Northampton Area Monday Night Triples League by dominating division three and winning promotion to division two.

Of the 14 league games played, Town won 13 and lost only one game topping their league with 69 points and plus 344 shots, a feat not bettered in any of the other three divisions.

At the start of the season, newly-appointed captain John Hodgkinson chose a squad of players from the club to be registered for the A team.

The team was built around four skips who controlled each rink.

These were Duggie Mitchell, Bernard Spreadbury, Darrell Welch and Mick Worthington.

Four leads were put in place to anchor each rink and these were John Worthington, Rick Hayes, Brian Chaplain and Ralph Snell.

The remaining seven players in the squad, chosen for their experience and utility, were Dave Bellis, Peter Brabrook, Alan Davies, Tony Dicks, Alan Gardner, John Hodgkinson and Arthur Stowe.

The League KO Cup competition also saw the team successful against Earls Barton and Brackley, both from higher divisions before finally losing to a strong Kislingbury team in the quarter-final.

Daventry Town Bowls Club will be recruiting new members for 2014 and welcome anyone( with or without bowls experience) to come along and join them in April at the start of next year’s outdoor season – keep a lookout for more information and advertising during the early part of April.
