Bowlers’ winning ways

DAVENTRY men recorded a fine win against Rushden Town by 25 shots, 116-91 winning on five of the six rinks.

The team included Keith Lancaster and Morris Freeman who were playing for the club for the first time.

The highest winning rink was Ken Faulkner, Jack Field, George Clifton and Richard Holland with a score of 27 shots to E Nortons 9.

This was Ken’s third highest winning rink win of the season.

Other rink scores were Peter Rolfe, Keith Lancaster, Peter Oliver and Duggie Mitchell 16 J St John 12. Jim Walvin, Morris Freeman, Brian Gelder and Adge Smith 24 D Jones 10. John Sharpe, Keith Bishop, Geoff Smith and Colin Dovey 17 J Greaves 15. Brian Robbins, John Shanahan, Arthur Flynn and Derek Brewer 20 R Sharman 19. Ken Garlick, Mike Robins, John Sach and Rien Sach 12 R Bigg 26.

Despite the snow 14 players made it to the club on Saturday for the men’s pairs Streeter Trophy Competition.

The winning pair were Adge Smith and Brian Gelder with six wins out of six and the runners-up were Duggie Mitchell and Geoff Smith with five wins, only losing to the winning pair. Other pairs taking part were John and Rien Sach, Jim Walvin and Steve Dick, Reg Kershaw and Jim Milburn, Alf Macari and Barry Bailey,Tony Dicks and Alan Gardner.
