BUCKBY took charge early in their game against Saints and their breakthrough came midway through the first-half.
A swift move down the right saw James Bennion passing to Finn Pickard who scored past the keeper.
The second goal was going to be crucial to the outcome of the game, and it came just after the break.
A scramble in Rugby’s D left the ball falling to Arun Mehta who deftly lifted the ball over an advancing keeper.
Finn Pickard grabbed his second minutes later after a perfectly-timed pass from Tom Robson and the game was effectively in the bag.
Long Buckby’s new keeper Kiaran Lorrimer had a quiet game but also a clean sheet to his name.
The game finished with man-of-the-match Finn picking up his third goal after good team work from Rory Jamieson and Ed van der Kuil.

Long Buckby opened the second half of the season with a tricky game against Saints.
In the 20th minute home striker Mike Grimsdale had a penalty corner effort cleared brilliantly off the goal line.
This was shortly followed by Ollie Windatt breaking free down the right wing and sending in a perfect cross. This was converted at the back post by Andy Morgan to put Long Buckby in the lead.
The lead was extended when Paul Wales finished off a smartly-worked penalty corner. An excellent double save from the home keeper, Chelsea Evans, just before half-time ensured the lead was maintained.
Saints created few chances due to an excellent defensive performance from ‘makeshift’ back four, Sue Butler, Chloe Kirby, Lynn Windatt and player-of-the-match, Jack Ingleton.
Long Buckby finished on a high when Kit Seymour received the ball in the opposition ‘D’ and slipped the ball to Mike Grimsdale to score in an unguarded goal.
