Athletes shine at meeting

EIGHT Daventry Athletic Club members have qualified to represent Northants at the Mason Trophy Inter-Counties match at Stoke this Saturday.

This follows their success in the County Schools Track and Field Championships at Corby.

Leading the list of qualifiers is Niklas Aarre who improved his pb to 49.01m in winning the U17 boys’ discus, a distance whichcurrently places him third in the UK rankings.

Niklas also placed second in the shot with 11.51m.

Kieran Russ won the U17 Boys’ 100m hurdles (14.3) and was placed second in the javelin (40.38m).

Abbie Barns won the U17 girls’ high jump (pb 1.45m) and Sam Meyler came second in the U17 boys’ long jump (6.28m).

In the U15 age group, Connor Aldridge won the boys’ 400m with a pb of 54.6 and also won the 80m hurdles (13.0).

Jack Bond won the boys’ 800m (pb 2.11.7), Megan Owen won the girls’ high jump (pb 1.50m) and the 75m hurdles (13.2) and Emma Bond was placed second in the girls’ 1500m (5.20.2).
