A SUPERB seven-goal strike from Daventry’s Angela Bartlett helped them maintain their position as league leaders of Division One with only six games remaining.

Angela’s impressive goals feast against Rothwell and Desborough saw her bag the league and club record.

Daventry Ladies got off to the perfect start as they battled the elements at their home ground.

Despite the Arctic conditions and with hardly five minutes of the game gone, Daventry struck with their first goal.

The well-worked goal from open play was drilled into the bottom corner by captain Angela Bartlett – her first of the day.

The second goal came from a well-drilled short corner routine with Angela scoring at the top of the D.

Rothwell rallied together to pressure Daventry, but the strong defence of Lorraine Powell, Ruth Tomlin and Mandy Thompson kept all their efforts at bay.

Karen Barlow, in goal, was forced to make a few saves to keep a clean sheet in the first-half.

Angela continued her magic touch in the second-half with her third goal, possibly the best of the match.

Roni Blyth, back from injury, took the ball into the D and crossed to Angela for goal number three.

There was strong running from the midfield of Alex Meek, Steph Borthwick and Hayley Frost, dominating the play.

Goals four and five came in quick succession.

Hannah Mayhew and Zoe Smiley spotted opportunities for quick balls into the D allowing Angela to slot number six past the keeper for her double hat-trick.

Rothwell’s misery was complete with Angela’s seventh goal from a magnificent inch-perfect cross from Roni.
