Mixed fortunes as season closes

THE last two matches of the season were played this week with the ladies travelling to Bletchley and the men entertaining Northampton and District.

The ladies played five rinks of triples and lost out 79-65 with their highest rink being Carol Kershaw, Marion Denny and Judy Hicks who won 23-9 against Audrey Johnson.

Other scores were Liz Hayward, Audrey Budd and Lil Greenwood 13 Anne Head 14.

Devina Stanger (loaned from Bletchley) Julie Smith and Jenny Hammond 11 Chris Barden 16. Trudie Calero, Joan Bodily and Shirley Shucksmith 7 Josie Warneer 18. Margaret Carty, Madge Austin and Margaret Stevens 11 Rita Boreham 22.

The men finished the season in fine style with another win against near-neighbours Northampton and District.

This is the third double in recent games with Daventry captain John Sach reporting having won 15 out of 20 matches this season and winning 11 out of the last 12 to complete a very successful season.

This final game was a tight one with a score of 96-90 with three winning rinks for Daventry and two for Northampton.

Daventry had two highest winning rinks on shots but by winning more ends the winners were Brian Robbins, Mike Robins, Stan Alton and Geoff Allen 21-13 against A Hogg.

Other rinks scores were Eric Wareing, Bryon Tonks, Brian Scott and Brian Jones 25 Sid Wittering 17.

The summer opening hours for 2011 are Monday 9.30am-11.30am, Tuesday 9.30am-11.30am and 2.30pm-4.30pm, Wednesday 9.30am-11.30am, Thursday 9.30am-11.30am and 6.30pm-8.30pm, Friday 11.30am-1.30pm and 6.30pm-8.30pm and Sunday 9.30am-1.30pm.
