A BATTLING Daventry Second team rallied round after going a goal down early in their home clash against Newark.
But despite their best efforts they were unable to stop third-placed Newark from gaining all the points as they suffered a 3-2 defeat.
Daventry Seconds, who are bottom of the East Midlands One league, were always going to have a tough task against higher-placed opposition at the Daventry Sports Park on Saturday.
The Daventry outfit went a goal down in the first-half but put up a valiant fight-back in the second-half to claw their way back into the game.
Robert Hibbard scored Daventry’s first goal early in the second-half to level the scores and soon after Matthew Finch added another as Daventry started to get back into the game.
But their joy was short-lived as Newark added two more goals later in the game to claim all the points.
