Long Buckby response delights manager Goodwin

Long Buckby boss Scott Goodwin says he’s had an ‘absolutely fantastic response’ from his players after Saturday’s struggle at Boston Town.

The Bucks were beaten 3-0 at The Stadium and Goodwin hauled his players in for impromptu training on New Year’s Eve.

Only three members of the squad failed to turn up, due to prior commitments, with the other 18 showing they are ready to make amends for their most recent defeat.

And Goodwin had nothing but praise for the attitude of his players, who will look to gain revenge when Boston head to Station Road for the return fixture this Saturday.

“I got the players in for training on New Year’s Eve and a lot of people were surprised about that,” said the Buckby boss.

“I got a big response from people on Twitter saying their players would never turn up in they had called a training session but we only had three of our 21 missing.

“We weren’t the best on Saturday for the first time in a long time. The lads did well for the first 15 minutes but showed me nothing after that. I was left scratching my head afterwards but the response has been absolutely fantastic.”

Buckby are set to warm up for the game with a friendly against Kettering Town on Thursday, with Goodwin pushing his players to be at their best at the start of 2013.

But the manager says he has already seen enough from his squad to ensure they won’t let a repeat of Saturday’s defeat happen.

“The lads have showed me it won’t happen again,” said Goodwin. “We’re ready for Saturday.

“One thing I can guarantee is that we’ll be ready and the performance will come this weekend.”

Goodwin will welcome a number of players back for Saturday’s clash at Station Road, with key men Jean Dakouri and Mike Houghton among those to return to the squad.
