Northamptonshire have been handed a significant boost ahead of their upcoming Friends Life t20 campaign with the signing of Richard Levi.

The South African batsman, who played for Somerset in the competition last year, will fill the vacant second overseas players spot and is in line to make his County debut in the floodlit clash with Gloucestershire on Friday evening.

Levi, who plays his cricket for the Cape Cobras, will provide some serious firepower at the top of the order for a side who have struggled to post competitive totals in the last two years.

He holds the record for the quickest international T20 century - a 45-ball effort against New Zealand early last year - and will take on an opening role that has caused the Steelbacks a few issues in the past.
