DAVENTRY Express sports editor Garry McGurk is leaving the Gusher today (Friday) after 11 years.
This follows the company’s decision to merge the sports editor roles on the Nothampton Chronicle and Echo and the Daventry Express.
Garry started working as sports editor on the Daventry Express in April 2001. This marked a return to the paper for Garry who had worked at the Gusher as a reporter shortly after he started his journalistic career when leaving school.
He is a familiar face to many Daventry people as he grew up in the town and has many family connections in the area.
“My journalistic career has taken me to a number of different newspapers and media organisations to work over the years, including a time spent in London, but I would be hard-pressed to find a more welcoming place than Daventry.
“I would like to thank everyone for the many messages of support I have received since announcing that I would be leaving.
“I have always felt a special connection with the Gusher and the people and the community it serves and I am very sorry to be leaving a job that I enjoy so much but you can rest assured that I will keep a keen interest in the fortunes of the paper over the coming months.
“I have been lucky to have worked alongside a great team at the Gusher and I wish them and the Daventry Express all the very best for the future.”
