MIKE Smallwood has won the Gold Medal for GB and first time European Age Group Champion after competing in a major championship.
His latest success came after Mike travelled to Northern Spain last weekend and competed in the European Sprint Triathlon Championships representing GB.
He was following up from his success as British Olympic distance Age Group Champion in Rutland on June 19.
Competing in the town of Pontevedra, Mike set off at 8am on Saturday morning on June 25 for a 750m river swim which he completed in a fantastic time of 14 mins.
Transition went well and the 20km uphill start bike ride was done and dusted in 35minutes.
This just left the 3km run through the town of well-supported British followers giving Mike the well-earned impetus he needed to finish in 1hr 13mins handing him the gold medal for GB and first time European Age Group Champion.
As always the GB team were the largest travelling competitors and swept the board in nearly all age group categories both female and male and paratriathletes.
In the Elite Groups the Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonathan, won gold and silver. Mike (pictured) is now off to France to compete in the Marmotte 109ml bike race with other members of the Daventry Cycling Club.
The next goal for Mike is the World Championships in Beijing in September where he would love to make it a triple.
