YOUTH FOOTBALL: Barker-Poole does the trick for super Saxons

Daventry Town Saxons Under-11s got their John Henry League campaign off to a flying start with a 7-2 win over Welland Valley Yellow.

Luke Barker-Poole was the main man for Saxons, scoring a hat-trick.

Report: Saxons got their season off to a flyer with a tremendous team performance. Bursting with energy, Saxons were rewarded for their early pressure with the first goal when Charlie Trayford eluded his marker to score with a composed finish at the far post. Saxons continued to press forward, but were punished for not taking their chances by two quickfire goals from their opponents against the run-of play.

Taylor-Noel equalised with the help of a post on the stroke of half-time. After the interval, Saxons didn’t look back as they stepped up a gear. Luke Barker-Poole terrorised the Welland defence, scored a hat-trick and was deservedly awarded man-of-the-match. Joe Pursey and Taylor-Noel completed the scoring.

Bugbrooke too strong

Daventry Town Danes Under-10s endured a difficult first game of the season as they were beaten 10-1 by Bugbrooke Yellow.

Report: Danes started brightly with some good pressure on Bugbrooke for the first five minutes.But were unable to finish any chances. A penatly for Bugbrooke and a fanastic save from MOM Daniel kept the Danes in the running. Bugbrooke took their chances while the Danes failed to clear their lines giving them a 5-0 lead at half time.Bugbrooke started the second half sharply keeping the pressure on but a quick counter attack from Charlie and Oliver gave Freddie a consolation goal.Corbin came close on a couple of occasions but was unable to finish. Jamie and Morgan worked hard at the back to try to block the Bugbrooke charge. As the Danes tired Bugbrooke stepped up a gear with five further goals showing why they finished top of the league last season.

Gilling the goal star
Charles Gilling was the goal hero as Daventry Town Danes Under-15s started their John Henry B League season with a 2-1 win over Kingsthorpe Hornets.

Hornets shaded a hard-fought first half and went in at the break 1-0 up.

Danes were level early in the second half thanks to a calmly-taken penalty from Leighton Bilson, and then Gilling popped up with the winner five minutes from time.

Man of the match for Danes was central defender Connor Porter.
