DAVENTRY Town Ladies entertained a determined Barlestone St Giles side at Communications Park on Sunday without their influential captain Erika Mole.
The Town started well moving the ball at pace but the away team’s defence held strong.
They shocked the home team, scoring a well-executed goal as the Town lost possession. Barlestone counter attacked and lobbed the advancing Sally Simpkin.
But Daventry continued to play confident football and levelled the scores early through the impressive Zoe Haddon whose fine strike from 20 yards found the top corner.
A lack in concentration allowed the away team to restore their lead. But Daventry continued to press the away team’s goal resulting in Kerry Luckett scoring her first of two to take the sides in at the break 2-2.
Daventry started the second-half well and took the lead in the 46th minute when Luckett, slotted the ball past the keeper at her near post.
Daventry limited Barlestone chances as the home side hit the woodwork twice to secure the win. There was a tense finish but a well-deserved three points put them four points clear in second position of the East Midlands Premier Division.
