Casey’s hopes of reaching a second successive Byfield Bethal Cup Final were dashed last Thursday when they lost 5-3 to highly experienced Premier League side Bishops Itchington.
Casey’s put in a superb first half performance at Woodford United’s Byfield Road ground, and yet found themselves 2-1 down at the interval with Chris Trill netting.
The second half proved a catastrophe for Casey’s early on as they conceded three goals in quick succession.
Casey’s did respond well with goals from Stuart Clarke and another from Trill.
Casey’s brought on attacking options with both Richard Roger and Sam Burke and both went close to netting, as did efforts from Ben Hyams and Kevin Eales, but Bishops held on for the win and a place in the semi-finals.
On Sunday, Casey’s lost by the same scoreline to Woodlands Rugby in the Rugby and District League Division One.
Casey’s took the lead early on through the hard working Matty Farrell and there were a number of chances missed before Woodlands equalised.
Woodlands keeper Sam Fitton was then rarely bothered as the home side opened up a 5-1 lead.
Casey’s, despite the prompting of Stuart Clarke, Kevin Eales, Matty Farrell and Alex Chaplin, found it difficult to gain the initiative until late on when Farrell added two more goals for a hat trick.
This was a hugely disappointing performance.
On Sunday, Casey’s face Barley Mow in a must-win fixture to secure a semi-final place in the Hospitals Cup.
