AFC Casey’s stormed to a 9-0 win over Yelvertoft in the Rugby & District Sunday League Division One.
Yelvertoft have been unbeatable at home for the past three seasons, but are clearly not the best travellers as they were lucky not to conceed double figures.
Casey’s played some amazing football and this without a handful of their regular line up.
However a combination of great defence by the visitors and a number of missed chances meant there was no score until late in the first half.
Josh Hyams with his first headed goal started the goal bonanza followed by Stuart Clarke’s two strikes and Leigh Roberts the final before the interval.
There were some unsung heroes that never made the scoreline, like livewire Robbie Farrell who worked tirelessly for the team as did Kevin Eales in midfield and the defense of Shackelton, Burkett, Marklew, Consentino and another clean sheet for Mr Versatile Jak Gwillam.
There was no stopping Casey’s in the second half when Chris Trill eventually netted twice, Roberts, Rogers, and Clarke completed his hat trick.
Casey’s late run of wins is putting pressure on the top sides, and still with both the Hospital Cup and The Byfield and Bethal cup up for grabs, it is an exciting start and run in into the new year.
