Casey’s winning start to the new Rugby & District Sunday League Division One season came to a swift halt at the weekend as they were beaten 4-1 at home by reigning champions Long Lawford.
Lawford were unbeaten throughout last season, and have yet to lose this campaign either.
Casey’s gave a hard-working display, but found the ruthless finishing of the visitors impossible to match.
A tight first half saw Lawford lead 1-0 at the break, with Casey’s defending well and goalkeeper Tom Consentino in brilliant form.
The second half saw the visitors grab two goals to make it 3-0, pouncing on a couple of half chances.
Chris Trill struck the woodwork twice for Casey’s, before getting his reward of a goal with a superbly struck drive.
Casey’s should have added to their score with opportunities dropping to several players, but indecisive finishing meant no further score.
To add insult to injury, Lawford grabbed a late goal on the break.
Casey’s are at Staverton Park on Sunday against London Calling.
