SUNDAY FOOTBALL: Casey’s get 2015 off to a flyer

Casey’s got the new year off to a winning start as they buried Community Relations 5-1 in the Rugby and District Sunday League.

Casey’s produced a stunning first half performance to stun league leaders Community, racing to a 3-0 lead at half time courtesy of a Stuart Clarke penalty and goals from Tozer and Rogers.

However, a crucial one handed save from keeper Tom Consentino at 2-0 prevented a fightback by the visitors but injury forced him at half time to hand over to versatile Jak Gwillam.

The second half saw Community throw every effort to reduce the deficit and after a series of corners they managed a scrambled goal courtesy of an own goal.

Gwillam can be proud of his contribution saving several efforts and goals from Trill and Rogers finally sealed victory for Casey’s.

Casey’s youngsters,Liam Fuller,Josh Hyams,Kevin Eales and Robbie Farrell all performed well against a well organised and committed top team.

Casey’s this week face Bayern Half Moon in the group stages of the Hospitals Cup away Ashlawn Road,Rugby.

Sunday’s match was Casey’s first since early December - a match that ended in an 8-7 defeat to Long Lawford!
