Marc Richards is the Chronicle & Echo Northampton Town Supporters’ Player of the Year for 2014-15.

The striker has enjoyed a brilliant season in the claret and white, scoring 18 goals ahead of the final game of the campaign against Wycombe Wanderers.

That total would surely have been more, but for an Achilles injury causing Richards to miss more than six weeks of action from early March.

‘Rico’ has been a revelation in his second stint at Sixfields, with the player having previously played for the club between 2003 and 2005, scoring 13 times in 42 starts.

Despite his injury, Richards was still the joint second top scorer in Sky Bet League Two going into the final day of the season, with his 18 goals coming in just 30 league appearances.

The former Chesterfield and Port Vale man polled a shade under 50 per cent of the votes received from Cobblers fans, and won ahead of second-placed Ricky Holmes, who got 15 per cent of the vote, with Lawson D’Ath in third (11 per cent).

Richards was presented with his award prior to kick-off of Saturday’s clash with Wycombe at Sixfields.
