CONGRATULATIONS to Long Buckby Peacock FC who ran out 4-2 winners in last Sunday’s Attenborough Trophy Final against A.F.C. Casey’s.
This win completes the treble for Dan Renshaw and his team who also picked up the Sunday League title as well as the Knock Out Cup in what was a fantastic season for the team.
The Attenborough Trophy final was a well-contested game with both teams having plenty of possession and good chances at each end.
The Peacock took an early lead after a defensive error by Casey’s centre-half Kevin Eales.
The Peacock looked to be in control of the game but a fast counter attack by Casey’s resulted in a penalty being conceded by Dan Renshaw and the scores were level.
The Peacock quickly established their lead on 30 minutes when Adam Confue was deemed to have been fouled in the box and the kick was duly dispatched to make the score 2-1.
Despite good pressure from Casey’s the score became 3-1 to the Peacock when another goal was conceded just before half-time.
The second-half was played with great intensity with both sides having plenty of chances to improve their scores.
Casey’s pulled one goal back to make it 3-2 and with the thought of extra-time being a possibility the Peacock stepped up a gear and scored their fourth goal in the 82nd minute.
Casey’s introduced Lee Tozer and continued to press for another goal playing crisp exciting football right to the final whistle. Lloyd Robert’s team did themselves proud and were worthy finalists in what was a well-fought good old fashioned cup final.
