The Cobblers’ planned practice match against Oxford United, in which they hoped to give game time to several first-team players, has been cancelled by the Us.

Town were due to play an Oxford reserve side on Tuesday but the game will now not take place as their opponents are having a day at Cheltenham races instead.

Oxford, who are currently 18th in Sky Bet League Two, were going to provide the opposition for a Northampton side containing players such as Billy Bodin, Chris Hackett and John-Joe O’Toole.

But instead Chris Wilder has now arranged a last-minute match between two teams of 11, selected from the senior and youth teams at Sixfields, to take place on the main pitch.

O’Toole and Hackett missed Saturday’s game at Plymouth due to illness but have recovered and trained with the full squad yesterday.
